What we stand for

Goods for green

We love nature – and we love what we do. We have been producing high-quality products for the home and garden for over 70 years so that your and our customers can enjoy nature in their garden or on their balcony.

We do not manufacture in East Asia, even though that might be cheaper. We manufacture in Germany. Because we have principles and high standards for ourselves.

Geli – a family company

Geli has been at the Alzenau-Michelbach location for over 70 years. We are a family business run in the second generation, with all the values for which a family stands: responsibility, safety, community, communication and attentiveness.

Geli – made in Germany

We manufacture exclusively in Germany, by tradition. We have no dreams of relocating abroad. We are proud that every watering can and every flowerpot is produced in this country.

Geli – for our environment

We act in an economically and ecologically efficient, resource-conserving, respectful and responsible manner. We demonstrate environmental awareness with a set of measures supported closely by our in-house energy team.

History

Geli – the history of a watering can

Founded over 70 years ago as a metal-processing company, Geli GmbH has become a leading producer of garden products.
The successful sale of metal watering cans was followed by a breakthrough: in 1961, the Lippert brothers managed to produce a plastic watering can from one mould – the first German company to do so. A classic which can now be found in every second garden in Germany. This was followed by further patents, and plastic began to replace metal in production. Geli Thermo-Plastic Gebr. Lippert GmbH was born. In 2001, the company passed to the next generation.
Under the managing directors Thomas Lippert and Günther Lippert, Geli underwent a process of rejuvenation and was rebranded Geli GmbH. Today, Geli produces almost four million plastic watering cans per year and offers a total of over 5,000 products in its range.

The manufacturer couple Maria and Kurt Lippert runs a metal-processing company in Grünheim, Saxony, with up to 300 employees.
The Lipperts’ company and house are expropriated by the Russian Allies after the Second World War.

1949

1949

The success story of Geli begins in a garage in Alzenau-Kälberau. The sons Ehrenfried and Joachim Lippert begin the production of metal items there, particularly watering cans, with a starting capital of just 600 Deutschmarks. They call themselves Geli Gebrüder Lippert GmbH.

1950

Ehrenfried and Joachim Lippert rent a former cigar factory in Alzenau-Michelbach, where they produce metal watering cans, hot-water bottles, scuttles and briquette carriers.

The first production hall of their own at today’s Alzenau-Michelbach location is built.

1961

1961

Geli is the first German company to put a plastic watering can blown from one piece on the market. It becomes the most important product permanently. In addition, patent applications for numerous further products are filed.
In 1971, Geli had already manufactured 1 million plastic watering cans, offering around 100 employees a secure job in the process.

1971

1971

Because garden products are seasonal, from 1971 the company started manufacturing radiator humidifiers, heating-oil cans and water canisters among other products in order to compensate for the months where sales were low.
The two brothers’ entrepreneurial activities resulted in additional ideas for manufacturing other plastic items, such as shelves, sledges and stands for sun umbrellas. However, these items were then discontinued after a time because the sale of garden products continued to increase year by year.

Geli builds a logistics and sales centre in Freigericht-Bernbach. Two years later, the first delivery is made.
